How to talk to young people about porn
Hi, I'm Shafia and I'm a health educator who is all about helping students and teachers keep it real when it comes to the complexities of teen culture and decision-making. Porn is a topic that comes up frequently in my work and as parents, it's really important that we be talking to our kids about it. Porn is common on the Internet. It's totally normal and natural for kids to be curious about it. But what they need to understand is that porn is not about real people or real sex or a healthy representation of sexuality and relationships. It's important that they know as parents will be there for them. No matter what to explain things and answer questions. We also know it can be tough to have these conversations. So, accompanying this video, you'll find sample conversation starters. These scripts will help you to have conversations with your kids about porn, about it being common on the internet, that it's normal to be curious about it, but that it's not representational of healthy sexuality or relationships, but most of all that if they come across porn they know that they can talk to a trusted adult who will explain things and answer questions. You'll also find additional helpful videos and resource links.
